Meares Glacier is one of the only advancing tidewater glaciers in North America. It is located at the head of the Unakwik Inlet in Prince William Sound. Visitors can book a day boat cruise and get as close as a quarter mile from the face of Meares Glacier. Guests onboard are likely to see whales, porpoise, sea lions and other wildlife along the way.
Located at the head of Unakwik Inlet, Meares Glacier is further out from Valdez than other glaciers like Shoup or Columbia, so tours to Meares will be longer. Glacier cruise tours out of Valdez are available during the summer.
