Solomon Gulch Hatchery is the largest single species salmon hatchery in North America, with a permitted capacity of 270 million Pink salmon and 2 million Coho salmon eggs. This production provides for an estimated annual return of approximately 16 adult million pink salmon and 100 thousand adult coho salmon each year. These fishery enhancement programs are estimated to generate an average economic output of $112 million each year. May through October, visitors will enjoy the FREE self-guided walking tour and will get a glimpse into the salmon enhancement industry in Alaska; specifically, the history of VFDA, the fishing industry, and how a large production Alaskan salmon hatchery provides benefits to Alaska’s sport and commercial fishermen, tourism, and all businesses dependent upon Alaska’s sustainable fisheries. The self-guided tour is open at all times unless there is bear activity along the walkway.
