Magpies

Black-billed magpies (Pica hudsonia) are found in South-central and Southeast Alaska, including Valdez. Magpies are in the Family Corvidae, and are thus related to other corvids like ravens and crows. Magpies are distinctive birds for having tails longer than the rest of their body, and having blue or greenish-blue coloration along their wing and tail feathers.

Magpies may be seen around Valdez year round.
