Belted kingfishers (Megaceryle alcyon) are found across much of North America, including Valdez, Alaska. Kingfishers are often seen diving from a tree branch towards water to hunt for small fish or insects.

Look for belted kingfishers in Valdez along the Duck Flats or the adjacent Dock Point hiking trail.
