The Committee of the Valdez Fly-In & Air Show is excited to announce our 14th Annual Event to be held May 12-14, 2017!
This fly-in and air show continues to draw thousands of spectators and hundreds of pilots from around the great state of
Alaska, the Lower ’48, and other countries. The Valdez Fly-In & Air Show continues to be a premier event in the aviation community.
# The world renowned Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) competition showcases masterful pilots flying at their peak performance.
# The Flour Bombing and Balloon Bust competition is a great family event for both participants and spectators.
# The Poker Run Beach Landing is a completely unique event that shows the beautiful places an airplane can take you.
The air show features military demonstrations and aerobatic performances to create a “one-of-a-kind” event that is memorable and extraordinary for
participants and spectators alike.
In 2017, we are again increasing our education and youth outreach. We are working with Gilson Middle School to present
aviation careers to the students and are going to offer an airplane ride to every student in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Not only do
we want to expand the pilot population, we want people to expand their own flying and learn how to do it safely. The pilot
seminars and round-table discussions provided by renowned bush pilots and instructors pass along invaluable information for
pilots wanting to expand their skills safely. The attending pilots learn about important topics such as bush flying judgment,
mountain flying, discerning weather patterns, increasing pilot proficiency, communications and much more. The competition
events showcase pilots’ bush flying skills and pristine Prince William Sound.
There are now several events in the states that host a “Valdez STOL Event” for short field and landing competition. In 2014,

2015 and 2016, the Valdez Fly-In was featured in a demonstration event at the largest air show in the United States, EAA
AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. An astounding 400,000 people attend the Wisconsin show each year and the event will
be featured prominently again this year. This will lead to even larger interest in our event in future years!
