Suggested Itineraries - In Valdez

Valdez, Alaska is the quintessential Alaska. With glaciers, waterfalls, wildlife galore, mountains, Thompson Pass and the Prince William Sound, there's so much to see and do in one breath-taking, beautiful location. 
It takes time to experience all the wonders of Valdez. We suggest you Allow yourself at least two days to explore our glaciers, towering mountains, rushing waterfalls, extreme natural beauty and bountiful wildlife that makes visiting Valdez a true Alaskan experience. The small size of Valdez makes exploring the town on foot, bicycle or vehicle easy to do. Don’t let a little rain or inclement weather keep you from getting out and experiencing all that Valdez has to offer.

This is an express itinerary based on a one night stay and day tour of the Prince William Sound...

Day One:
-  Morning -drive to Valdez from Tok or Glennallen.
- 12:00 PM join the Columbia Glacier Cruise or helicopter tours offered by one of our local outfitters. 
- Dinner at one of our locally owned restaurants.
- Overnight at one of our comfortable hotel or B&B properties. 
Day Two:
- Morning - Eat breakfast in one of our local restaurants.
- Visit one or more of our museums or drive to Dayville road and check out the fish hatchery, the bears and a vast array of sea life in the area. Do not feed bears or get near them. They can be deadly. 
- Shop in one of our many gift stores.
- Depart Valdez via the scenic Richardson Highway towards Fairbanks, Tok or Anchorage, or take the Alaska Marine Highway to Whittier.

  • Visit the 'Remembering Old Valdez' Exhibit to learn about life in Old Town and the 1964 'Good Friday' Earthquake.
  • The Maxine and Jesse Whitney Museum houses the largest privately owned collection of Alaska Native art, artifacts, and wildlife mounts.
  • See Gold Rush and Trans-Alaska Pipeline movies.
  • Freshwater fishing is easy in one of many freshwater lakes and streams.
  • Take a half- or whole-day salmon or halibut charter or fish right from shore.
