Valdez boasts some of the most scenic and historic trails in Alaska. Trails in and around Valdez vary in length and difficulty ranging from the easy one mile round trip Dock Point Trail to the more difficult Shoup Bay Trail. There is certainly something for everyone to enjoy. Dock Point Trail is located next to the Small Boat Harbor and features beautiful south facing views overlooking Port Valdez.
Mineral Creek Canyon is an extremely popular six mile gravel road that gradually winds its way through a beautiful mountain canyon, across magnificent waterfalls, and back to an abandoned gold stamp mill. More information about the Stamp Mill is available on the Stamp Mill History page. For those of you preferring to climb the peaks around Valdez, you will want to explore Thompson Pass.
